Shoppers delight! Spanish retail giant Mango set to open on Cork’s Patrick Street

Retail outlet Mango, the popular Spanish operator who previously operated a franchise in the city centre, has returned to Cork’s main thoroughfare.  The European outfit has signed up to occupy the former Quills store, a large retail footprint that will give the business a significant presence in the city.

The Spanish success story has gone from strength to strength since its opening in 1984.  Successful marketing campaigns with models like Kate Moss and Miranda Kerr have raised its profile, while the 2020 launch of Mango Teen, featuring a Tiktok stage in Barcelona was seen as furthering the brands reach.  The companies 2015 turnover was in excess of €2.3 Billion.

The deal is a positive for Cork’s main street which has seen multiples new announcements of openings in the last number of years.  Shoe operator Dune and outdoor weather specialist The North Face were among recent arrivals.  The attractive Saint Patrick’s Street, constructed mainly in the late 18th century as the city extended its reach, remains in consistent demand despite the challenges of online retailers.  Flagship retailers like Brown Thomas, Dunnes Stores, Marks and Spencer’s, Golden Discs and Penny’s are long term mainstays.

They have being joined in more recent times by GameStop, Pandora and a number of food, health and beauty options.  Together with adjoining areas like high fashion street Opera Lane, the ever vibrant and diverse Oliver Plunket Street, and up and coming areas like the VQ,  they make Cork a vibrant shopping experience.
