Cork based start ups among the ‘Hottest Irish businesses to watch’ for 2023

Startup in Cork has a long and successful track record, with the county a hotbed of activity for entrepreneurial and start up talent that make the most of the significant supports on offer. 

This supportive business environment was evident with the inclusion of several Cork based businesses listed in the Bank of Ireland Think Business ‘ones to watch‘ list for 2023.

Workvivo was founded by John Goulding and Joe Lennon.  The company has developed an internal communications platform to increase employee engagement. The firm won the backing of Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan and is creating 100 new jobs in Cork. Ryanair employees will use the Workvivo employee app as their central hub for communications, meaning over 19000 staff will adopt the system.  Its exciting times the Douglas based outfit.

Cotter Agritech was founded by entrepreneurial brothers Nick and Jack Cotter.   Based in Limerick, older brother Nick is a student of Corks much respected University College Cork student.  Nick was named Overall Winner at the 2022 Global Student Entrepreneur Awards while a student at UCC, just one of several business awards for the serial entrepreneurs.  Over 1000 students from 40 countries took part in the student awards, placing Nick ahead of a very talented field. 

The duos Agritech start up specialises in selective treatment systems for sheep, significantly reducing the use of chemicals through the use of smart software.  The associated 50% reduction in cost of drug use is naturally attracting the interest of farmers far and wide.

Vaultree was founded by Maxim Dressler, Ryan Lasmaili, Tilo Weigandt, and Shaun McBrearty and recently raised $3.3m in a 2021 multi-investor round.  The group makes it possible to work with fully-encrypted cloud-based data without the need to decrypt or surrender security keys.  The future looks bright for the software firm in the ever expanding online security market.
