Global investment eyes focused on emerging Cork Harbour strategy

The stunning asset that is Cork Harbour is having a strategy developed by Cork County Council, to ensure its extraordinary economic potential is fully realised. A home to industry and tourism interests alike, the Council is creating a detailed Cork Harbour and Coastline Green Industrial and Economic Strategy, to ensure future use is planned, sustainable and brings the most benefit for the area and wider economy through wind energy investment.

The Cork County coast and harbour offers unlimited potential in terms of green energy prospects. With increasing demands in this area and opportunities for related industry, businesses and employment, recognition of the co-ordination of state, semi-state and investors is needed to ensure this potential is fully maximised.

Large scale off shore wind energy production is a key component of the strategy, with Cork County Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey stating:


“In the realm of offshore energy and economic development, Cork’s coast and harbour are unrivalled in Ireland,”.

The area is one of the highest potential wind energy areas in Europe, with additional economic opportunities along the Cork coast.
